The Health 1st Foundation, Inc. is comprised of business and medical leaders who are committed to addressing health related disparities in Georgia.
Governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, the day-to-day operations are handled by an Executive Director. Grant awards are determined by members who serve on the Grant Review Committee.
Prior to its establishment as a private foundation, the organization operated as a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) until March 21, 1986. At that time the HMO ceased operations and its assets and liabilities were acquired by POA, Inc. a newly formed for-profit Georgia corporation.
On April 11, 1986, Health 1st, Inc. became Health 1st Foundation, Inc. Proceeds from the sale are held by the Foundation which continues to distribute any earnings for healthcare-related charitable purposes.
